What it feels like

A gift they will unwrap slowly.
Hold for a moment before they can speak.

Our son arrived under a waxing crescent. We had it printed the week he came home. It’s on the wall above his cot now — the actual sliver from his first night here.

My mother-in-law opened it the day she met her granddaughter. She kept saying “that’s the moon I saw that night.” It’s in her hallway now.

We had twins. The moon shifted between them by twenty-eight minutes. Two moons, side by side, both their names beneath. It’s the first thing they’ll see when they look up from the cot.

The Gift

Not a print. The moon that watched.

The first moon
over their first night.

Every moon was in a precise phase the night your little one arrived. Our lunar engine calculates that exact moon — accurate to the hour, to the room they were born in, anywhere in the world.

Their name. The time on the clock. The weight in the midwife’s hands. All printed beneath the actual moon from the night a family began.

Precise to the hour

Real lunar calculations for the exact hour of birth — the same phase, the same shadow, the same terminator. Not a template.

🌏
Any place of birth

Auckland Hospital, a whare in Northland, a home in Christchurch, somewhere overseas — wherever they were born, the moon above is there.

👶
Their birth details, kept

Baby’s name in italic Cormorant, date of birth, time of birth, place of birth, weight and length — all set into the design beneath the moon.

👻
Twins welcome

Two moons side by side, one per baby, each with their own name, time, and stats. One title above — for the family that arrived together.

🖼
Five premium mediums

Fine art paper, gallery canvas, HD aluminium, acrylic block, or puzzle. Each made to last — for the nursery now and the bedroom later.

Printed in Aotearoa

Produced in New Zealand and shipped flat in protective packaging. Ready in 7–10 business days, anywhere in Aotearoa.

The Process

Three steps to something permanent.

01
👶
Enter their details

Baby’s name, place of birth, date and time, weight and length. Add the title that sits above the moon. Twins? Add Baby 2 on the same canvas.

02
Design their moon

Choose a colour style. The exact phase, shadow and terminator from the hour they were born appears in real time as you type. For twins, two moons side by side — each calculated independently.

03
Printed & shipped in Aotearoa

Fine Art Paper, Canvas, HD Metal, Acrylic Block, or Puzzle. Produced at full archival resolution and shipped flat in protective packaging — ready in 7–10 business days anywhere in New Zealand.

The moon was different
the night they arrived.

Questions

Everything you need to know.

What is Babies First Moon?
Babies First Moon is an EMBER personalised print of the actual moon phase above your baby’s place of birth at their exact time of birth. It pairs the real lunar shadow and terminator with their name, date and time of birth, place of birth, weight, and length — all rendered on archival fine art paper or five premium mediums. Made in Aotearoa as the first keepsake of a new life.
How accurate is the moon phase on the print?
Very. The exact lunar phase — the precise shadow, terminator and illumination percentage at the chosen hour and location — is calculated using the same astronomical formulas Stellarium and other professional moon-phase tools use. Sub-solar longitude, libration and the terminator angle are computed from the Julian date and your local sidereal time, so the moon on your print matches what a telescope would have shown that night — not a stock template.
What details do I need to enter to design the print?
Baby’s name, place of birth, date and time of birth, and (optionally) weight and length. Add the title that sits above the moon — usually a welcome or a phrase the family will keep. The designer pulls the exact moon phase for that location and hour and lays the rest into the print beneath the moon.
Can I make a Babies First Moon print for twins?
Yes. Choose the dual-moon layout in the designer. The print holds two moons side by side, one for each baby, each with their own time of birth, place, weight, and length set beneath their own moon. One shared title sits above. Twins born minutes apart still get two independent lunar calculations.
Can I add my baby’s photo to the print?
Yes. The photo layout places their first photo in a matching circle alongside the actual moon from the night they were born — with their name, date, time, weight, and length laid out beneath both. Two circles, one night. The photo can be a hospital photo, a first-day-home photo, or anything you have from that day.
Is this a good new-baby gift in New Zealand?
Yes — it’s a considered new-baby gift designed specifically for the night a child arrived, rather than a generic baby gift. Made in Aotearoa, free preview, no account required. The moon is calculated for the actual place and hour, so a parent, grandparent, godparent, or friend can mark the moment without buying something that becomes outgrown clothing or another soft toy.
How long does it take to receive a Babies First Moon print?
Designing takes around 5–10 minutes in the interactive designer — no account required. Once ordered, prints are produced at full archival resolution in Aotearoa and shipped flat. Delivery anywhere in New Zealand typically takes 7–10 business days from order to door (5–7 days production + 2–3 days NZ shipping). For instant delivery, the Digital file ($60) is emailed within 24 hours.
Can I just buy the digital file and print it myself?
Yes. Choose “Digital file” in the designer and you’ll receive an A3 print-ready PDF by email within 24 hours of ordering for $60. It prints beautifully at A3 (297 × 420 mm) on any inkjet or laser printer that handles A3, and downsizes cleanly to A4 if you choose “Fit to page” at print time. You can also take the file to Warehouse Stationery, Officeworks, or any local print shop. The link is valid for 30 days — save the file somewhere safe and you can re-print as many copies as you like for personal use.
Can I get the baby's moon print framed and ready to hang?
Yes. Choose “Framed Print” in the designer and your baby's moon arrives mounted in a Classic timber moulding with standard glass — ready to hang the moment it’s unwrapped. Available in four sizes (A4 $120, A3 $185, A2 $250, A1 $430) and three frame colours: White, Black, or Raw oak. The print itself is the same archival fine art paper used for our Fine Art option, and the frame is professionally assembled in Aotearoa. Production takes 7–10 business days plus 2–3 days NZ delivery. The framed option is ideal for new baby, christening, or first birthday gifts — particularly when sending the print to someone who would never frame it themselves.
