What it feels like

A gift they will unwrap slowly.
Hold for a moment before they can speak.

I gave him the moon from our wedding night. A full moon over Wanaka. He turned it over in his hands for a long time and didn’t say a word. It hangs above our bed now.

Our son arrived under a waxing crescent. I had the moon printed the week he came home. It’s on the wall above his cot — the actual sliver from his first night here.

We chose the waning gibbous from the night Dad passed in Wellington. Mum cried, then held it against her chest. Some gifts hold what words can’t.

The Gift

Not a print. A phase preserved.

The moon doesn’t
forget.

Every moon was in a precise phase on the night that mattered. Our lunar engine calculates that exact moon — accurate to the hour, to your latitude and longitude, anywhere on earth and at any point in recorded history.

This is not a generic moon graphic. It is a document of a real night. A gift that says: I know this moment mattered. And I wanted it to last.

Precise to the hour

Real lunar calculations — the same phase, same shadow, same craters. Not a template. Not approximate.

🌏
Any location on earth

Queenstown, London, a hospital in Auckland, a beach in Northland — wherever the moment happened, your moon is there.

Questions

Everything you need to know.

What makes an EMBER Moon Phase print different from other moon prints?
EMBER Moon Phase prints use real lunar calculations to show the precise phase of the moon at your exact location, date and time. Most moon print services use a generic illustration or a template phase. Ours is computed for your specific latitude, longitude and hour — the same shadow, the same terminator, the same craters that were visible above you. The moon on your print is the actual moon that existed that night.
How accurate is the moon phase on the print?
Very. The exact lunar phase — the precise shadow, terminator and illumination percentage at the chosen hour and location — is calculated using the same astronomical formulas Stellarium and other professional moon-phase tools use. Sub-solar longitude, libration and the terminator angle are computed from the Julian date and your local sidereal time, so the moon on your print matches what a telescope would have shown that night — not a stock template.
What occasions is a Moon Phase print suited to?
Moon Phase prints work for almost any occasion where a specific night matters: anniversaries, weddings and wedding-night gifts, the birth of a child, milestone birthdays (especially 30, 40, 50), honeymoons, Matariki, Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, retirements, and memorial gifts. The most meaningful versions are made for the night someone arrived, someone said yes, or someone was last with you.
Can I choose any date and location?
Yes. Any date back to 1900, any time, and any location on earth. You can map the moon above a hospital in Auckland in 1989, a beach in Northland on New Year’s Eve, or a street in London thirty years ago. Enter the date, time and place and your moon appears in real time as you design it.
How long does it take to receive a Moon Phase print?
Designing takes around 5–10 minutes in the interactive designer — no account required. Once ordered, prints are produced at full resolution in Aotearoa and shipped flat. Delivery anywhere in New Zealand typically takes 7–10 business days from order to door (5–7 days production + 2–3 days NZ shipping).
What print mediums are available?
Seven options: Fine Art Paper (archival matte, from $49), Canvas (gallery-wrapped on pine frame, from $89), HD Metal (aluminium panel, from $129), Acrylic Block (6mm clear, from $115), Moon Phase Puzzle (150 or 300 pieces, from $89), Framed Print (Classic timber moulding with standard glass in White, Black or Raw oak, from $120), and a Digital file (from $55) emailed to you to print at home. For a gift that arrives ready to hang, the Framed Print. For something that stands alone, Metal or Acrylic. For something experiential, the Puzzle. For instant delivery, the Digital file.
Can I get the moon phase print framed and ready to hang?
Yes. Choose “Framed Print” in the designer and your moon arrives mounted in a Classic timber moulding with standard glass — ready to hang the moment it’s unwrapped. Available in four sizes (A4 $120, A3 $185, A2 $250, A1 $430) and three frame colours: White, Black, or Raw oak. The print itself is the same archival fine art paper used for our Fine Art option, and the frame is professionally assembled in Aotearoa. Production takes 7–10 business days plus 2–3 days NZ delivery. The framed option is ideal for anniversary, wedding, new baby, or sympathy gifts — particularly when sending the print to someone who would never frame it themselves.
Can I just buy the digital file and print it myself?
Yes. Choose “Digital file” in the designer and you’ll receive an A3 print-ready PDF by email within 24 hours of ordering for $55. It prints beautifully at A3 (297 × 420 mm) on any inkjet or laser printer that handles A3, and downsizes cleanly to A4 if you choose “Fit to page” at print time. You can also take the file to Warehouse Stationery, Officeworks, or any local print shop. The link is valid for 30 days — save the file somewhere safe and you can re-print as many copies as you like for personal use.
What is a good gift for someone who has everything in NZ?
A Moon Phase print is one of the few gifts in New Zealand genuinely personalised to a specific moment rather than to general taste. Because it requires knowing something real about the recipient — the date and place that mattered to them — it communicates thought and care that generic gifts cannot. It is particularly suited to people who are hard to buy for: it gives them something they cannot buy themselves, NZ-made, archival, and tied to a single real night in their life.
