What it feels like

A gift they will read slowly.
The exact ocean of an exact morning, held still.

We were married on the beach at low tide. I had the chart of that morning framed for our first anniversary. He stared at it for a long time before he said anything. He still touches it on the way out the door.

My partner has surfed the same Raglan break for fifteen years. I had the tide chart printed from the morning he caught his first wave. It hangs in the garage now, above where his boards live. He hasn’t taken it down.

We scattered Dad’s ashes at Piha at sunrise. The chart of that exact morning sits in Mum’s hallway now. She says it’s the closest thing she has to the actual sea that took him home.

The Gift

Not a print. A tide preserved.

The ocean doesn’t
forget.

Every tide was in a precise position on the morning that mattered. Our oceanographic engine calculates that exact tide — accurate to the minute, to your specific coastline, anywhere on earth and at any point in recorded history.

This is not a generic tide graphic. It is a document of a real ocean morning. A gift that says: I know this moment mattered. And I wanted the sea kept exactly as it ran.

Questions

Everything you need to know.

What makes an EMBER Tide Chart print different from other tide prints?
EMBER Tide Chart prints use real oceanographic calculations to show the precise rise and fall of the tide at your exact coastline, date, and time. Most tide-print services use a generic curve or a stylised template. Ours is computed for your specific coastline, hour and minute. The tide on your chart is the actual ocean that ran that morning.
What occasions is a Tide Chart print suited to?
Tide Chart prints work for any occasion where a specific coastal morning matters: wedding mornings, anniversaries, engagement spots, the morning of a child’s birth, a surfer’s first wave or favourite break, a coastal memorial, Father’s Day or Mother’s Day for someone who loves the sea, and Matariki. The most meaningful versions are made for the morning the ocean was already part of the moment.
Can I choose any date and coastline?
Yes. Any date back to 1900, and any coastline on earth. You can chart the tide at Mt Maunganui on the morning of a wedding, at Piha at sunrise on a memorial day, at Raglan on the morning of a first wave, or at a beach in Cornwall thirty years ago. Enter the date, time and coastline and your tide appears in real time as you design it.
How long does it take to receive a Tide Chart print?
Designing takes around 5–10 minutes in the interactive designer — no account required. Once ordered, prints are produced at full archival resolution in Aotearoa and shipped flat in protective kraft packaging. Delivery anywhere in New Zealand typically takes 7–10 business days from order to door (5–7 days production + 2–3 days NZ shipping).
What print mediums are available?
Seven options: Fine Art Paper (archival matte, from $49), Canvas (gallery-wrapped on pine frame, from $89), HD Metal (aluminium panel, from $129), Acrylic Block (6mm clear, from $115), Tide Chart Puzzle (150 or 300 pieces, from $89), Framed Print (Classic timber moulding with standard glass in White, Black or Raw oak, from $120), and a Digital file (from $55) emailed to you to print at home. For a gift that arrives ready to hang, the Framed Print. For something that stands alone, Metal or Acrylic. For something experiential, the Puzzle. For instant delivery, the Digital file.
Can I get the tide print framed and ready to hang?
Yes. Choose “Framed Print” in the designer and your tide chart arrives mounted in a Classic timber moulding with standard glass — ready to hang the moment it’s unwrapped. Available in four sizes (A4 $120, A3 $185, A2 $250, A1 $430) and three frame colours: White, Black, or Raw oak. The print itself is the same archival fine art paper used for our Fine Art option, and the frame is professionally assembled in Aotearoa. Production takes 7–10 business days plus 2–3 days NZ delivery. The framed option is ideal for anniversary, wedding, retirement, or Father’s Day gifts — particularly when sending the print to someone who would never frame it themselves.
Can I just buy the digital file and print it myself?
Yes. Choose “Digital file” in the designer and you’ll receive an A3 print-ready PDF by email within 24 hours of ordering for $55. It prints beautifully at A3 (297 × 420 mm) on any inkjet or laser printer that handles A3, and downsizes cleanly to A4 if you choose “Fit to page” at print time. You can also take the file to Warehouse Stationery, Officeworks, or any local print shop. The link is valid for 30 days — save the file somewhere safe and you can re-print as many copies as you like for personal use.
What is a good gift for a surfer in NZ?
A Tide Chart print of a specific coastal morning that mattered — their first wave, the morning of an anniversary surf, the break they’ve surfed for decades, or the dawn of a memorable swell. It’s personalised, NZ-made, printed on archival materials, and reads like a document of a real ocean morning rather than a generic surf graphic. For NZ surfers, it sits at the intersection of place, ritual and memory in a way most gifts cannot reach.
