What it feels like

A gift they will unwrap slowly.
Hold for a moment before they can speak.

My sister opened it on day three at the hospital. She just kept tracing her son’s name with one finger. That sky was right above the room while she was holding him.

We gave it to her parents the day they met their granddaughter. Her dad held it for a long time before he said anything. It’s now above his armchair.

We had twins. Different rooms in the same hospital, twenty-eight minutes apart. Two skies, side by side. Both their names, both their weights. We didn’t expect to cry at a print.

The Gift

Not a print. The night they arrived.

The first sky
they ever lived under.

Every star was in a precise position the night your little one arrived. Our astronomy engine calculates the exact sky above their place of birth — accurate to the minute, to the room they were born in, anywhere in the world.

Their name. The time on the clock. The weight in the midwife’s hands. All printed on the same page as the real sky from the night a family began.

Precise to the minute

Real astronomical calculations for the exact time of birth. The actual stars above their hospital room, home, or birthing pool — not a template.

🌏
Any place of birth

Auckland Hospital, a whare in Northland, a home in Christchurch, somewhere overseas — wherever they were born, their sky is there.

👶
Their birth details, kept

Baby’s name in italic Cormorant, date of birth, time of birth, place of birth, weight and length — all set into the design beneath the sky.

👻
Twins welcome

Two skies side by side, one per baby, each with their own name, time, and stats. One title above — for the family that arrived together.

🖼
Five premium mediums

Fine art paper, gallery canvas, HD aluminium, acrylic block, or puzzle. Each made to last — for the nursery now and the bedroom later.

Printed in Aotearoa

Produced in New Zealand and shipped flat in protective packaging. Ready in 7–10 business days, anywhere in Aotearoa.

Questions

Everything you need to know.

What is Babies First Night Sky?
Babies First Night Sky is an EMBER personalised print of the actual stars above your baby’s place of birth at their exact time of birth. It pairs the real astronomical sky with their name, date and time of birth, place of birth, weight, and length — all rendered on archival fine art paper or five premium mediums. Made in Aotearoa as the first keepsake of a new life.
How accurate is the night sky on the print?
Very. EMBER’s star positions come from the Yale Bright Star Catalog (BSC5) — the same astronomical reference Stellarium and other professional star map tools use, originally compiled from Hipparcos satellite measurements. Planetary positions are calculated from IAU Standish J2000 Keplerian orbital elements, with the equation of center applied so the planets render where they actually were — not where a circular-orbit approximation would put them. Up to 8,400 individual stars to magnitude 6.5 (the naked-eye limit in dark skies), plus all 7 planets visible above the horizon at the moment. If you compare your print to a professional star app at the same moment, the same constellations, bright stars and planets sit in the same place.
What details do I need to enter to design the print?
Baby’s name, place of birth, date and time of birth, and (optionally) weight and length. Add the title that sits above the sky — usually a welcome or a phrase the family will keep. The designer pulls the exact stars for that location and hour and lays the rest into the print beneath the sky.
Can I make a Babies First Night Sky print for twins?
Yes. Choose the dual-sky layout in the designer. The print holds two skies side by side, one for each baby, each with their own time of birth, place, weight, and length set beneath their own sky. One shared title sits above. For twins born in different rooms or even different hospitals, both skies are calculated independently.
Can I add my baby’s photo to the print?
Yes. The photo layout places their first photo in a matching circle alongside the actual sky from the night they were born — with their name, date, time, weight, and length laid out beneath both. Two circles, one night. The photo can be a hospital photo, a first-day-home photo, or anything you have from that day.
Is this a good new-baby gift in New Zealand?
Yes — it’s a considered new-baby gift designed specifically for the night a child arrived, rather than a generic baby gift. Made in Aotearoa, free preview, no account required. The sky is calculated for the actual place and hour, so a parent, grandparent, godparent, or friend can mark the moment without buying something that becomes outgrown clothing or another soft toy.
How long does it take to receive a Babies First Night Sky print?
Designing takes around 5–10 minutes in the interactive designer — no account required. Once ordered, prints are produced at full archival resolution in Aotearoa and shipped flat. Delivery anywhere in New Zealand typically takes 7–10 business days from order to door (5–7 days production + 2–3 days NZ shipping). For instant delivery, the Digital file ($60) is emailed within 24 hours.
Can I just buy the digital file and print it myself?
Yes. Choose “Digital file” in the designer and you’ll receive an A3 print-ready PDF by email within 24 hours of ordering for $60. It prints beautifully at A3 (297 × 420 mm) on any inkjet or laser printer that handles A3, and downsizes cleanly to A4 if you choose “Fit to page” at print time. You can also take the file to Warehouse Stationery, Officeworks, or any local print shop. The link is valid for 30 days — save the file somewhere safe and you can re-print as many copies as you like for personal use.
Can I get the baby's night sky print framed and ready to hang?
Yes. Choose “Framed Print” in the designer and your baby's sky arrives mounted in a Classic timber moulding with standard glass — ready to hang the moment it’s unwrapped. Available in four sizes (A4 $120, A3 $185, A2 $250, A1 $430) and three frame colours: White, Black, or Raw oak. The print itself is the same archival fine art paper used for our Fine Art option, and the frame is professionally assembled in Aotearoa. Production takes 7–10 business days plus 2–3 days NZ delivery. The framed option is ideal for new baby, christening, or first birthday gifts — particularly when sending the print to someone who would never frame it themselves.
